API have informed examination candidates that the Remote Testing option will no longer be offered, applying to all API 510, 570 and 653 exam cycles commencing in September 2024. Remote testing is still available for API 580, 571, 936, 577, SIFE and SIRE.
There is some information on the ‘Updates’ section of the API website (see HERE), however not a great deal more than that. In addition, some students have received emails stating that ‘instant scoring’ is currently not available with no indication when it will be re-introduced.
For those looking to sit API exams we recommend you book your exam as soon as possible in order to secure your in-person examination at a Prometric center. It does not appear that Prometric are adding additional examination places to account for the students now unable to sit a remote exam. Thus, there will be more competition for exam placements making it doubly necessary to apply for your exam early and book your exam early. You may find you need to travel to a city housing a Prometric testing center that you have not previously considered.
If examination slots are not available in your preferred city, try another center. The Oceania centers are Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, Jakarta, Singapore, Manila, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur. Remember when searching for exam dates, you may find when you search the Prometric website that no exam spots come up for your location/time frame. Note that the Prometric site only allows a search of a two week window so first try moving the search dates to include the third week of the exam cycle.
For those in Western Australia, the ideal solution would be for Prometric to re-open their center in Perth, however we do not have any indication this will occur.
It is imperative that you understand the API exam application process. Please see the section ‘What is the process for application and sitting an API exam?’ on our FAQ page HERE
We will keep this post updated when we receive further information.
